How to specify the formatting for new slides in PowerPoint

Subscriber Inderjit M. asks 'When inserting a new slide in PowerPoint how do I get it to take on the formatting of the existing slides?'

In PowerPoint, when you insert a slide, it is based on the Master Slide. Changes made to the Master Slide affect the formatting of all existing slides as well as any new slides you add. If you want to make a 'global' formatting change, apply the formatting to the Master Slide.

In PowerPoint 2003:
- View menu, Master, Slide Master
- Make formatting changes as needed
- Click on the Close Master View button on the Slide Master View toolbar

In PowerPoint 2007:
- View tab, Presentation views group, Slide Master button
- Make formatting changes as needed
- Click on the Close Master View button on the Slide Master View tab
