What version are you using?
When people contact me about training I usually send them outlines for the courses they are looking at taking. With several versions of Microsoft Office in use, I always want to send them outlines for the version they have.
When I ask "What version are you using?" there is usually a long pause because people generally are not sure which version of a program they have.
So how do you find out what version of a program you are using? Virtually all Windows applications have a Help menu as the last menu on the Menu Bar. On the Help menu, the last command is usually About program name, where program name is the name of the program you are using. Click on the About command and a small window is displayed showing the exact version.
The exact version will usually include any Service Packs or other upgrades that have been applied since the software was first installed on your system.
Of course, in Office 2007 there is no menu bar, so how do you find out which version you have?
- Office button, Options button
- In the navigation pane on the left, select Resources
- The version is displayed at the bottom of the Resources window
Note that while Office 2007 is currently the only version that does not have a Help menu, Office 2010 is scheduled to be released next year.
