Shortcut to switch between open
windows
Subscriber Magda C. asks "I am
providing training on a software package and will have a PowerPoint
presentation as well. I am going to be going back and forth between the presentation
and the software. How can I make sure that I can continue the slide
presentation in PowerPoint where I left off?"
We usually
use the Task Bar to switch between open windows but when you are running a
presentation you cannot see the Task Bar. How do you switch between
windows if the Task Bar is not visible?
The Task
Bar was first introduced by Windows 95. Prior to that we used Alt+Tab to switch between open windows and this shortcut
still works.
If you
press and hold down Alt and then press Tab, a panel with an icon for each open
window is displayed. With Alt still pressed, pressing Tab repeatedly will
highlight each of the icons in turn.
The
operating system keeps track of the order in which you access open windows so Alt+Tab will show the last window you accessed first in the
list. So in Magda's case, she could start the
software program and then run the presentation. Alt+Tab
will take her to the software program and when she is finished, Alt+Tab will take her back to the presentation.
