Bypassing the Recycle Bin when deleting
When you delete a file on your hard drive, Windows puts it into
the Recycle Bin. This is a good thing because if you later change your
mind and want to keep the file, you can recover it from the Recycle Bin.
However,
if you are deleting a file and you are certain you will not need it again, you
can bypass the Recycle Bin. This saves having to delete it twice: once
from the folder and once from the Recycle Bin.
To
bypass the Recycle Bin, press Shift before you press Delete.
This
also works in mail programs such as Outlook Express and Outlook. If you
have a message in the Sent Items folder that has a large attachment (some bit
of humour with a PPT or video attached, perhaps?) and you know you want to get
rid of it. Rather than deleting it from Sent Items and then deleting it
from Deleted Items, just press Shift before pressing Delete or clicking on the
Delete button.
