The Help Desk was receiving a significant number of questions
on very basic problems, so the decision was made to develop
a manual that covered PC basics. What made the manual unique
was that it had a strong focus on the company's computing
environment.
In
addition to covering topics such as PC Hardware and Software,
Networking Concepts, Windows Explorer and Troubleshooting,
the manual also incorporated the company's specific environment
and policies. For example, the section on Troubleshooting
covered the most common problems reported to the Help Desk.
In addition to describing the symptoms and cause of each problem,
it presented a company-specific solution.
This
material was then delivered, on an on-going basis, as a one-day
course with numerous hands-on exercises.
