If you often create hyperlinks to a web page, this week\u2019s tip will come in useful.\u00a0 I use this the most in email messages but it works equally well in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s say you\u2019ve found something on a web page that will be of interest to someone and you want to send an email to them with a link to the web page. You can just paste the web address into the email but I think it\u2019s cleaner to create a hyperlink.\u00a0 I\u2019ll often give some background in the email as to why I\u2019m sending the link and then say something like \u2018click here\u2019.\u00a0 In this case I want the word \u2018here\u2019 to be a hyperlink.<\/p>\n

The steps I follow to do this are:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Type the text in your email.\u00a0 e.g. click here.<\/li>\n
  2. Go to your browser and, assuming you are already on the page whose address you want to send, click in the address bar<\/li>\n
  3. The entire web address is selected so you can just use Ctrl+C to copy it<\/li>\n
  4. Switch back to your email<\/li>\n
  5. If needed, click on the word \u2018here\u2019; you do not need to select the whole word<\/li>\n
  6. Press Ctrl+K to open the Insert Hyperlink dialog box<\/li>\n
  7. Press Ctrl+V to paste the web address in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box<\/li>\n
  8. Press Enter to close the dialog box<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When you use Insert Hyperlink, it automatically turns the whole word you have clicked on into a hyperlink.\u00a0 If you wanted several words to be used for the hyperlink, you\u2019d need to select them first.<\/p>\n

    What I really like about this is how efficient the keyboard shortcuts make the process when I switch back to the email.\u00a0 It\u2019s Ctrl+K, Ctrl+V, Enter and I\u2019m done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
