{"id":426,"date":"2018-10-17T01:52:45","date_gmt":"2018-10-17T01:52:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alandaletraining.com\/software-tips\/?p=426"},"modified":"2018-10-17T01:52:45","modified_gmt":"2018-10-17T01:52:45","slug":"using-autocorrect-to-save-keystrokes-for-common-phrases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alandaletraining.com\/software-tips\/2018\/10\/17\/using-autocorrect-to-save-keystrokes-for-common-phrases\/","title":{"rendered":"Using AutoCorrect to save keystrokes for common phrases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You can use AutoCorrect to save keystrokes for phrases you commonly use.\u00a0 I often talk about <em>step-by-step instructions<\/em> in my proposals and emails.\u00a0 My typing skills or OK but words with hyphens slow me down.\u00a0 So rather than typing the phrase each time, I created an AutoCorrect entry <em>sbs<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I can then type <em>sbs <\/em>in any email or Word document and as I press the space bar, <em>step-by-step instructions<\/em> appears. I do something similar for <em>One-on-One<\/em> for which I created an AutoCorrect entry <em>1o1<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>An AutoCorrect entry can be a few words or many paragraphs of text.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t find a definitive answer but the limit seems to be about 3,000 characters.<\/p>\n<p>In recent versions of Microsoft Office all the programs use the same AutoCorrect file so you can use the entries you create in Word, Outlook, Excel or PowerPoint.<\/p>\n<p>When creating AutoCorrect entries you want something that is easy to remember but make sure the entry isn&#8217;t a word or abbreviation you may use.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, if I used <em>step <\/em>for my <em>step-by-step\u00a0instructions<\/em> AutoCorrect entry, then every time I used the word <em>step <\/em>in a document or email, the substitution would automatically happen!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You can use AutoCorrect to save keystrokes for phrases you commonly use.\u00a0 I often talk about step-by-step instructions in my proposals and emails.\u00a0 My typing skills or OK but words &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":48,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[3,4,7,5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-426","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-excel","category-outlook","category-powerpoint","category-word"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.4 -
