Save your PowerPoint presentations as PowerPoint Shows so they are easy to launch

In last week’s tip we saw that you can use F5 to start a PowerPoint presentation once you have opened the file.  While this works, I think a much better approach is to save your presentation as a PowerPoint Show (.ppsx).

If you double-click on a PowerPoint Show to open the file, it launches directly into the slide show.  You don’t have to remember where to click or what to press to launch the slide show.  When you finish the presentation the file closes.

Of course, if you want to work on the presentation, you can’t just double-click on the file to open it.  You have to open PowerPoint and then use the Open dialog box to get the file.

To save a presentation as a PowerPoint Show, in the Save As dialog box, click on the Save as type drop down list at the bottom of the dialog box then select PowerPoint Show as the file type.
