What’s the quickest way to copy a worksheet in Excel? Most people Right-click on the worksheet tab then select Move or Copy.
That works but there is a quicker way. In a Windows environment, when you drag an object to a new location, it moves it. So if you want to change the order of your worksheets, you can just drag the worksheet tabs to reorder them.
Press the Ctrl key when you are dragging and the move turns into a copy.
The quickest way to copy a worksheet:
- Drag the worksheet tab to the right or left as if you were going to move it
- When you get to the place you want to copy it to, keep the mouse button pressed down
- Press and hold the Ctrl key
- Release the mouse button
- Release the Ctrl key
When you drag something to a new location and release the mouse button, Windows asks ‘Is the Ctrl key down?’ If it is it copies; if it isn’t it moves.
If you want to use this technique to copy something you don’t need to press Ctrl at the beginning. All that matters is that the Ctrl key is down when you release the mouse button.
