Using non-breaking hyphens in Word

As a follow on to last week’s tip on using a non-breaking space in Word, this week I wanted to mention it’s close cousin: a non-breaking hyphen.

Like a non-breaking space, a non-breaking hyphen will keep the words on either side of the hyphen on the same line.  This can be useful for product names or people’s names.   So if you were working with a name like Jean-Paul, you could ensure Jean-Paul would not be split across two lines.

And the keyboard shortcut for a non-breaking hyphen?  Ctrl+Shift+-

This keyboard shortcut also works in Outlook.
